On August 26, SpaceX announced plans to build a $100 billion Starship launch facility on the southern coast of Louisiana, marking the addition of a third Starship launch site. The facility will be located on Pelican Island, covering approximately 125,000 acres, and is set to include five launch complexes, ten launch pads, as well as facilities for propellant production, power generation, vehicle processing, and employee housing. This facility will help SpaceX increase the launch frequency of Starship and support future plans to deploy up to one million data center satellites. Starship is also expected to be used for launching upgraded Starlink satellites, with orbital data center missions slated to begin as early as 2027, and plans to carry NASA astronauts to the Moon as early as 2028.
