He plans to focus on developing high-performance CPUs based on the RISC-V architecture for high-performance AI servers and Agentic AI. Gao is considered one of the early core promoters of Tencent's self-developed chip system. Records show that he formed an FPGA hardware team within Tencent in 2013, began laying the groundwork for AI chip development in 2018, established the Penglai Laboratory in 2020, and promoted the development and deployment of multiple AI chips and data centers. His new venture will focus on CPUs rather than the currently competitive AI GPU market. Reports indicate that Gao believes that with the rapid development of Agentic AI, the AI inference process will involve model invocation, tool execution, search, database interaction, and extensive task scheduling, making CPUs play a more significant role in scheduling and control within AI systems. It is reported that during his time at Tencent, Gao was involved in RISC-V related research and participated in various technical directions including chip architecture, verification, and backend. His new company plans to create high-performance server CPUs based on the open instruction set RISC-V to enter the AI infrastructure market. Currently, the name of Gao's new company, its financing status, and the specific product release date have not been disclosed. The market is watching to see if he will become a new force in China's AI chip sector targeting server CPUs and Agentic infrastructure.
