According to monitoring by Beating, Cloudflare has announced the acquisition of VoidZero, which was founded by Evan You, the creator of Vue and Vite. The entire team has joined Cloudflare. The official commitment is that open-source tools such as Vite, Vitest, Rolldown, and Oxc will remain open-source and vendor-neutral, with a $1 million Vite ecosystem fund established to support contributors. Vite currently sees a weekly download volume of 129 million. Among these, the official Cloudflare Vite plugin (@cloudflare/vite-plugin) has nearly 14 million weekly downloads, accounting for 10.8%. The growth in data is primarily driven by the popularity of AI-generated code. Applications generated by AI typically default to using the Vite template, and agents prefer the Cloudflare platform for deployment, prompting a deep integration of the toolchain between the two. Cloudflare plans to align its development tools closely with Vite. The new command-line tool cf (cf CLI) is built on the Vite architecture, with cf dev serving as a superset of vite dev functionalities. When developers run locally, they can directly invoke edge services such as Durable Objects, D1, and R2 in the workerd simulation environment without needing cloud-side debugging. Vite will evolve towards being full-stack and agent-friendly. Prior to the acquisition, VoidZero had tested the deployment platform Void, attempting to unify rendering routes, APIs, background tasks, and storage into a single toolchain. Cloudflare plans to transform the exploration results into neutral primitives and hooks for Vite and has committed to open-sourcing the Void platform in the future, allowing other vendors to build platforms based on Vite and Cloudflare.

Evan Van Ness, the founder of Week in Ethereum News (WiE), announced on social media that he will terminate the operation of this newsletter because a conversation with the leadership of the Ethereum Foundation (EF) earlier this year indicated that they believed continuing to operate WiE was not valuable. In 2024, WiE received very little funding support from the Ethereum Foundation. Although this support was mostly symbolic, the EF leadership chose to cut off this insignificant support, clearly indicating that WiE would immediately terminate. The withdrawal of support from the Ethereum Foundation tells me more clearly than any other way that it is time for WiE to end. WiE has had a good track record. Over the years, many developers have told me at conferences that WiE has had an impact on their Solidity or security careers. They often mention that this newsletter has made them decide to buy ETH. Once upon a time, this old-fashioned newsletter was the upstream source of most Ethereum news. Unfortunately, WiE has not been able to find a sustainable business model. Advertising and sponsorship are difficult to sell because marketing directors do not value developers. I have high standards for content, but it is too time-consuming to complete it in a profitable way.
