Shinhan Financial Chairman Cho Yong-bong and Visa President Chris Newkirk signed the agreement on the 25th at Shinhan's headquarters in Seoul, marking the concrete realization of discussions on cooperation held by both management teams in April. Under the agreement, Shinhan Financial will utilize Visa's stablecoin platform to verify core functions such as issuance, remittance, and repayment, and will collaboratively design a business model suitable for the South Korean financial environment. The two parties will also cooperate on the application of stablecoins in financial services such as card settlement, AI payment models, and the expansion of B2B/B2C payment services. Shinhan Financial plans to combine the capabilities of its major subsidiaries, including banks, credit cards, and Jeju Bank, with Visa's network and technology to address changes in the financial environment.
