On August 27, NVIDIA reported that its revenue for the second quarter of fiscal year 2027 grew more than double year-on-year to $96.22 billion, surpassing market expectations of $92.17 billion as per LSEG statistics. Revenue from the core data center business also more than doubled to $89 billion, higher than the market expectation of $85.08 billion. NVIDIA expects third-quarter revenue to be $108 billion, with a variance of 2%, exceeding the average analyst expectation of $104.19 billion; the adjusted gross margin is expected to be 74%, with a variance of 0.5 percentage points, lower than the market expectation of 74.77%. The market is closely watching the impact of the ramp-up in production of the Rubin chip and rising storage chip prices on profit margins. The company also anticipates a revenue growth of about 70% for fiscal year 2028 and announced an expansion of its collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS). NVIDIA's Chief Financial Officer Colette Kress stated that the two companies will deploy an additional 2 million NVIDIA GPUs in Amazon's global infrastructure during 2027 and 2028. NVIDIA also mentioned that the revenue opportunity for its AI chips before 2027 could exceed $1 trillion, which is double the previously stated $500 billion market opportunity for the Blackwell and Rubin chips before 2026. The guidance for the third quarter does not account for any sales of data center chips to China. The U.S. government approved about 10 Chinese companies, including Alibaba, Tencent, and ByteDance, to purchase H200 chips in May this year, but deliveries were subsequently stalled for months. A U.S. Commerce Department official stated last month that relevant shipments have begun, but the quantity remains "very small." In June, NVIDIA also began promoting the Vera CPU to Chinese customers, indicating that the product could be supplied as early as August. According to BIT (bit.com) market data, NVIDIA's stock price rose over 4% in after-hours trading following the earnings report. As of Wednesday's close, the company's market capitalization was approximately $5.16 trillion, with the stock price having increased by 12.4% year-to-date. NVIDIA has exceeded Wall Street's revenue expectations for the past 15 quarters, but the extent of the outperformance is narrowing.
