Concept and Objectives

Coinbase Wrapped XRP ($cbxrp) is a token designed to reflect the value of the XRP cryptocurrency on different blockchain ecosystems. Each cbxrp token is backed on a one-to-one basis by XRP held securely in custodial accounts managed by Coinbase. This backing ensures that users are able to redeem their cbxrp tokens for corresponding XRP by interacting with Coinbase services. The overarching mission of cbxrp is to broaden the accessibility and functionality of XRP by integrating it into the DeFi space — allowing participants to engage in decentralized applications, liquidity pools, and various cross-chain transactions.

This initiative targets two significant challenges in the cryptocurrency space. Firstly, it addresses the limited utility of native tokens confined to their original ledgers. Secondly, cbxrp represents an effort to enhance accessibility for XRP holders, facilitating user participation in the burgeoning DeFi protocols without necessitating the liquidation of their original holdings.

Technical Architecture

At its core, cbxrp operates through a wrapping mechanism. When users deposit XRP into Coinbase's secure custodial solution, an equivalent amount of cbxrp is minted on platforms compatible with the token, such as the Base network or Ethereum. This ensures that the supply of cbxrp remains fully collateralized and transparent. Moreover, the mechanism allows for easy redemption — users can exchange their cbxrp for underlying XRP at any time, reinforcing trust and liquidity for holders.
