On July 27, Tether announced that its gold-backed digital asset XAUT has received Shariah compliance certification from Amanah Advisors, providing compliant digital gold investment channels for Muslim users, Islamic banks, and institutional investors worldwide. Tether stated that the certification confirms XAUT's adherence to the core principles of Islamic finance, enabling users to digitally hold physical gold through blockchain infrastructure. Each XAUT token represents direct ownership of physical gold stored in Swiss vaults, with no interest (Riba), leverage, or speculative derivatives involved in its structure. Amanah Advisors confirmed that XAUT's issuer, TG Commodities, S.A. de C.V., meets Islamic finance requirements, including actual ownership of physical gold; transparent and verifiable asset reserves; no involvement in interest mechanisms; no use of leverage or speculative derivatives; and a transparent reserve structure. Tether noted that gold has long played an important role in the Islamic financial system, and XAUT aims to connect traditional gold value with blockchain technology, enhancing the global accessibility of digital gold. This certification is expected to promote the use of XAUT in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, parts of South Asia, Africa, and global Islamic finance centers, including Islamic banks' digital gold services, Shariah-compliant savings products, asset preservation schemes, and institutional-grade gold allocations.

On June 3, Tether, in collaboration with Fasset, launched the world's first gold-backed Visa card, allowing users to spend fiat currency at Visa merchants globally while earning up to 6% cashback in gold tokens (XAUT) on eligible transactions. The card supports real-time conversion of XAUT to USDT and then to fiat currency, and features an automatic rounding function that invests spare change into gold tokens (XAUT), enabling passive gold accumulation through everyday spending. Tether has committed to invest up to $1 million in XAUT for reward ecosystems, promoting the adoption of tokenized gold in emerging markets. Currently, the total market capitalization of tokenized gold exceeds $5.3 billion, with XAUT accounting for over $2.6 billion.

On March 29th, according to Lookonchain, a whale (0x1F09) sold 1,870 gold tokens (XAUT) nine hours ago at an average price of $4,489, totaling $9.49 million. The whale had purchased these tokens two weeks prior at $5,075 each, resulting in an approximate loss of $1.1 million.
