On August 19, Strive CEO Matt Cole stated that he has believed for over a decade that the U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) is in a structural downtrend, and it may currently be approaching a larger phase of decline. If this assessment holds true, the macro environment for Bitcoin over the next 5 to 7 years could be more favorable than at any time in its history. Cole pointed out that over the past approximately 45 years, the Dollar Index has shown lower highs and lower lows, while the U.S. federal debt and fiscal deficit continue to expand, and the long-term risks of U.S. Treasury bonds are rising, which fundamentally supports this view. He believes that policymakers will ultimately need to balance between higher real interest rates and tighter financial conditions, and lower real interest rates, maintaining liquidity, and a degree of currency depreciation. He noted that Bitcoin's previous major rallies have coincided with significant dollar weakness, including the DXY dropping from around 103 to 88 in 2017, from about 103 to 89 between 2020 and 2021, and a decline from approximately 108 in 2025. His baseline judgment is that the dollar may enter a new multi-year decline over the next 3 to 7 years, with the DXY potentially challenging the low point of around 70 from 2008. Cole also mentioned that the U.S. Treasury announced today it would at least double the scale of liquidity support repurchase operations for 10 to 30-year Treasury bonds. He believes that if the dollar ultimately experiences a genuine long-term structural breakdown, the macro tailwind for Bitcoin over the next 5 to 7 years could be significantly stronger than at any historical stage.
