On August 19, Zhibao Technology (NASDAQ: ZBAO), a Chinese insurtech company, announced the completion of its previously announced private investment in public equity (PIPE) financing. Investors subscribed to newly issued shares and warrants of the company with 2,380 bitcoins. Based on an agreed reference price of $65,000 per BTC, the transaction size is approximately $154.7 million. According to a 6-K filing submitted by Zhibao Technology to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), investors transferred all 2,380 BTC to the company's designated wallet at the time of the transaction's closing. In exchange, the company issued 442 million PIPE units, priced at $0.35 each, with each unit consisting of one share of Class A common stock and one warrant, which has an exercise price of $0.35 and is valid for two years. Zhibao Technology stated that it will use Bitcoin as a reserve asset to support daily operations, business expansion, research and development, and AI-related applications. Following this transaction, Zhibao Technology ranks 33rd among publicly listed companies globally in terms of BTC holdings.

On August 19, Hong Kong police recently disclosed a cryptocurrency investment scam targeting the elderly. An 80-year-old retired man clicked on a fraudulent link in an online pop-up advertisement in June this year and downloaded a fake app called 'Trust Wallet,' which impersonated a cryptocurrency platform. Subsequently, scammers posing as customer service representatives lured him into investing with promises of 'high returns and big profits.' The victim followed their instructions to withdraw money from his bank and exchanged cash for cryptocurrency at a currency exchange shop. Over the following month and a half, he transferred a total of over HKD 5 million worth of ETH into wallets designated by the scammers in multiple transactions. It was only when he could not withdraw funds from the fake app and the customer service became unresponsive that he realized he had been scammed. Hong Kong police remind families to pay attention to the online habits and financial situations of the elderly, actively share anti-fraud information, and be vigilant against investment scams carried out through fake apps and promises of high returns.
