On August 25, Brent Kovar, a businessman from Las Vegas, Nevada, was found guilty by a federal jury of running a cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme that defrauded at least 400 investors of approximately $24 million. Kovar was convicted on 11 counts of wire fraud, 2 counts of mail fraud, and 2 counts of money laundering, with sentencing scheduled for November 30, where he faces a maximum statutory sentence of 280 years.
