On August 24, Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon, announced that in response to strong community demand, the team is advancing the Polygon staking and token economics reform proposal and shared some preview content. The Polygon PoS plan will introduce a native staking mechanism similar to L1, running in parallel with Ethereum staking; priority fees generated from each transaction will be allocated to POL stakers, a mechanism previously approved in PIP-85. POL staking yields are expected to nearly double, with additional earnings primarily coming from actual network fees rather than token inflation. Staking POL will provide greater rewards to incentivize more users to stake POL, including gas fee discounts, and promote the use of liquid staking tokens (sPOL) in DeFi. Nailwal also stated that Polygon's revenue has grown tenfold this year, achieving 5000 TPS, reducing block time by 25%, and is working to reduce block time to under one second. Polygon Labs will be responsible for the related code development and will submit it for community forum approval.

On July 1, Polygon founder Sandeep announced on the X platform that from 2026 to the present, approximately 105.2 million POL tokens have been newly minted, while around 107.7 million POL tokens have been burned through the base fee mechanism. The amount burned has surpassed the newly issued amount, marking the Polygon network's official achievement of annual net deflation. Sandeep added that the reduction in POL supply is primarily due to the base fee destruction resulting from Polygon's role as a payment chain handling high transaction volumes. In May, Polygon processed more transactions than other public chains, with a total of 198 million transactions in a single month.

On April 17, Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda stated to reporters in Washington after attending the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting, "The current situation involves significant shocks from rising energy prices. This brings both upward risks to prices and downward risks to the economy." Ueda emphasized the challenges faced by policymakers who need to address the price risks and economic downturn risks triggered by conflicts in the Middle East. He did not provide clear signals regarding interest rates ahead of the policy decision announcement later this month. Ueda remarked, "This is why policy responses are very difficult.
