Casey Rodarmor, the architect behind both the Ordinals Protocol and Runes Protocol, serves as the visionary behind MEMENTO•MORI. A software developer with extensive contributions to Bitcoin's ecosystem, Rodarmor has consistently pursued expanding Bitcoin's functionality beyond peer-to-peer cash transactions. His educational background includes computer science studies at the University of California, Berkeley, where he demonstrated unconventional problem-solving approaches that later characterized his blockchain innovations. Rodarmor's development philosophy prioritizes technical efficiency and network health, evidenced by his creation of the Runes Protocol specifically to address UTXO management issues plaguing earlier Bitcoin token standards.

The conceptual genesis of MEMENTO•MORI predates its actual deployment, having been among the initial ten runes Rodarmor considered hard-coding during the Runes Protocol's development phase. The project materialized as an expression of gratitude toward supporters of the “Hell Money” podcast, which Rodarmor co-hosts. This philosophical podcast explores Bitcoin culture through the lens of existential inquiry, making MEMENTO•MORI a natural extension of its themes.
