Staking Dynamics and Reward Structures

Staking GHO to mint stkGHO involves depositing GHO into the Safety Module, where it remains locked subject to a cooldown period. Participants earn rewards through two primary channels:

1. Protocol Emissions: A portion of AAVE token emissions is distributed to stkGHO holders, proportional to their stake.
2. Merit Program Incentives: Launched in 2024, this initiative allocates $12 million annually to stkGHO stakers, rewarding active participation in governance and liquidity provision.

These rewards compensate users for assuming slashing risks, which could materialize if the protocol requires liquidity to cover under-collateralized loans or security breaches.

Integration with Anti-GHO and sGHO

Aave’s 2025 upgrades introduced Anti-GHO and sGHO, which interact with stkGHO to optimize yield strategies and risk profiles:

• Anti-GHO: A non-transferable token earned by stkAAVE and stkBPT holders, convertible to stkGHO or redeemable to offset GHO debt. This mechanism redirects 50% of GHO-generated revenue to stakers, enhancing alignment between protocol profitability and user incentives.

• sGHO: Part of the Aave Savings Rate (ASR), sGHO offers lower-risk yield options compared to stkGHO, targeting users prioritizing liquidity over staking-related rewards.
