On August 15, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino addressed external doubts regarding the company's first complete financial audit, stating that some critics are unable to accept their previous misjudgments about Tether and emphasized that the company has repeatedly proven its reliability. In an interview with The Block, Ardoino remarked, "Frankly, I don’t care." He pointed out that Tether's USDT had previously withstood significant redemption pressure. In 2022, Tether completed approximately $7 billion in redemptions within 48 hours, accounting for about 10% of its reserves at the time, without pausing redemption services. He noted that many traditional financial institutions might struggle to handle a similar outflow of funds in such a short time. Even though some view Tether as a 'villain,' the company will continue to serve its claimed 650 million users who rely on USDT, especially in emerging markets. Previously, Tether announced that PwC had issued a 'clean opinion' on the financial statements of Tether International, S.A. de C.V. for 2025. However, some questioned whether the audit covered the overall finances of Tether's parent group and why the company had not released a complete audit report. In response, insiders stated that since Tether is a private company, it would not publicly disclose audited financial statements but would provide relevant documents as required by regulators and banks. Tether stated that Tether International is the only entity issuing USDT. The audit results indicated that as of December 31, 2025, Tether's reserve assets exceeded liabilities by $6.8 billion. Ardoino mentioned that Tether will conduct complete financial audits annually while continuing to release quarterly reserve attestations. Regarding the reasons for not completing a comprehensive audit for several years, Ardoino explained that the issue was not the complexity of the balance sheet but rather the previously hostile regulatory environment in the U.S. towards the crypto industry, which made large accounting firms reluctant to collaborate with crypto companies. Additionally, Ardoino revealed that Tether remains focused on the AI sector and plans to support projects that utilize advanced AI models to identify vulnerabilities in Bitcoin open-source software. He believes that software vulnerabilities currently pose a more realistic threat to Bitcoin than quantum computing.
