The complaint states that Iran laundered over $1.5 billion in oil sale proceeds through cryptocurrency participants in Asian countries, with two companies, Blessed Trust and Hexa Whale, accused of processing related funds through associated trading accounts and transferring money to the Iranian government, agents, or related entities. U.S. Deputy Attorney General Sean S. Buckley stated that the seized and sought-after funds could have been used to support military actions and terrorist activities against the U.S. and its allies. The complaint also claims that Blessed Trust and Hexa Whale provided fiat on- and off-ramp services for cryptocurrency to clients and processed related transactions through U.S. cryptocurrency issuers, with both companies having utilized the U.S. financial system to send and receive tens of millions of dollars. Both companies could not be reached for comment. Additionally, the complaint states that Tether will destroy the cryptocurrency tokens involved in the addresses and issue equivalent replacement tokens, which will then be transferred to a wallet controlled by the U.S. government.
